My Cabin Fondue Ski Adventure
On Saturday night I headed out to Gatineau Park with Katherine and a group of about 15 others for what they called a Cabin Fondue Ski. I didn't really know what I was getting myself into but I like to ski and I like fondue, so I figured it couldn't be too bad.
We met around 6:30 at the trails and skied 5km into Gatineau Park (uphill the entire way...) to the Herridge cabin. This is a 2-storey log cabin in the middle of the park that's set up with a wood-burning fireplace and lots of tables and benches for group to come and make their fondues, eat, drink and be merry. Our group arrived in staggers as we made it along the trails in the darkness. The moon was really bright but it is still very tricky Nordic skiing in the dark - I definitely had a couple spills. I also took a wrong turn at one point - serves me right for going ahead of Katherine without a light.... But we all made it and had a feast of fondues - 2 for cheese, 2 for meat and 2 for veggies and of course, a chocolate fondue for dessert later in the night. It was an awesome time and there was a group upstairs in the cabin making music with spoons and a guitar so that was great too. Our group was a lively bunch (especially after the wine that we "had to finish because I am not carrying this back" - Jenn) and we had a blast. We skied back around one in the morning (thank goodness it was mostly downhill) and I think I got into bed about 3am.
An amazing night! I met a lot of great people and had an awesome time.
