Weekend Recap in Poem
There was a young lady named Kate
Who moved up to Ottawa of late
She liked the outdoors
(Though the cold she abhors)
So she took off to ski, shoe, and skate
It started out on Friday night
When she snowshoed by the moonlight
She trekked through the trees
(And tried not to freeze)
While the guide talked about the great site.
Now just as a little side note
I'll share one of the guide's anecdotes
Did you know you can eat
The poop a white rabbit leaves
If you're stranded without a snack tote?
Saturday lead her downtown
Where the protestors crowded the grounds
Of Parliament Hill
Mad at the prorogue bill
Why won't Stephen Harper step down?
So she joined in the protestors' cry
And stormed the main doors - she's not shy!
Soon she was on her face
Under a big man's shoelace
That'll teach her to be a tough guy...
Sunday she headed up to the hills
Of Gatineau Park for some thrills
She clicked on her skis
Put a bend in her knees
And took off to practice her skills
Another Gatineau Park fact to regale
Did you know there's 363 km of trails?
For skis, snowshoes, and bikes
Not to mention great hikes
Just ask me if you want more (useless) detail.
The skiing helped clear out her head
(And left her face looking quite red)
Those hills were steep
And the valleys were deep
It was time to head back home to bed.
But Ottawa's not for the faint at heart
When nature calls, you gotta take part
So it was off to the canal
The prime skating locale
Where ssped along like "big Al" Lockhart
The conditions were good on the ice
Though I'll give one piece of advise
It's not real smooth
There are lots of grooves
Try to show off and you will pay the price
So by Sunday night she was spent
As she returned to Somerset and Kent
She sprawled on her bed
And rested her head
Looking forward to the next week's events
