Senators Make the Playoffs!
The Ottawa Senators have made the playoffs this year and the city is united cheering on their Sens like it's their job! To kick off the first round of playoffs, the annual Sens Mile is celebrated. The Sens Mile ceremony involves a car rally from Scotiabank Place down the 417 and into Ottawa, ending at City Hall where the Mayor of Ottawa gives a speech and the Senators flag is raised for the duration of the playoffs. In addition, the Sens Mile itself is a stretch along Elgin Street in downtown Ottawa (where majority of the sports bars are located) and it's packed with people during the playoff games. I know this because I ended up down on Elgin St the night of Game 1 purely by coincidence and it was quite the show! A group was driving around in their big pick-up truck all decked out in Sens gear and honking the horn and running into bars and handing out Sens paraphenilia. The spirit is definitely alive. Unfortunately, the Sens are 2-1 right now with Game 4 tonight in Ottawa. The Mayor said in his speech that any Sens game day is declared a wear red day or something to that effect... (I wore a red scarf to work today).
Below are some pictures from the Sens Mile ceremony at City Hall Sunday. The two guys dressed up in Senator outfits were interviewed by every tv station in Ottawa I think...
GO SENS GO! GO SENS GO! GO SENS GO!
