Cali Weekend
Thamesford's Calithumpian celebrations took place as usual on the Victoria Day long weekend. After missing the festivitiese last year, I was excited to be back to take part and I managed to get to a lot of the events and see lots of friends too!
Friday night was karaoke at the Legion. The locals were out in full force and most were willing to jump up on the stage and belt out a tune. Most were appallingly bad, but there was enough beer flowing that no one seemed to really mind. Susan and I were sober so our ears were taking a beating but it was pretty funny to watch.
Saturday morning was the Chidlren's races at the park where Allison scored first prize for the shoe kick! She was pretty excited about that red ribbon. In the afternoon, Teri and Christine came to Thamesford for a visit! I took them down to the Fairgrounds to meet Mark the Machine at the beer tent where he was signing photos and taking pictures with the hundreds of fans who came out to meet him. The girls and I had dinner at our place and went to a movie together too. It was great to see them.
Sunday was the Pet Show at the arena where I met up with Michelle, Rachel, Erin and Danielle who had all brought their pups. Michelle and her Mom both won prizes for their dogs! There were a few reptiles (snakes) and some really cute little bunnies and kittens. The best was the weiner costume that one lady had dressed her dog in - it was priceless! Sunday night was the fireworks. A group of us went to Linds and NIc's place for a BBQ then I headed over to Rachel's to watch the fireworks with the gang there and then onto Andrea's to finish off the night at their HUGE party. It was a great night!
Monday was parade day. Tori and Jackie came by in the morning for a visit and then the Lockhart clan all headed down to watch the parade at 1pm. The floats did not disappoint and my favorite group - the baton twirlers - put on quite a show! The one group I did miss this year was the lawn chair ladies. They are a group of women who do a dance to country music with their lawn chairs - it's pretty awesome.
The rest of the day was low-key and then we had a nice family BBQ to cap off the weekend.
