"Fall"ing Behind
Well I must admit that these past couple weeks have gotten away on me and I am lapsing in my blogging. But I will catch you up on the month now and hopefully be back on the ball. This month has found me in Regina, Saskatchewan for a week. I'd never been to Regina before so it was neat to see a new city. For a capital city Regina is pretty small - population 200,000 - but is it growing like crazy and in a few more years it's going to be a lot bigger. The Regina folks are crazy about their Roughriders and the home stadium is located just outside the downtown area. "You can get anywhere in Regina in 15 minutes" I was told numerous times so the stadium is not far. However, they are planning to build a brand new stadium right downtown where the train station currently is and move that to the outskirts instead. A great idea for both the football fans and the travellers. There wasn't a ton of nightlife in Regina but they have some neat tourist attractions - the RCMP Museum, Casino Regina, the university, the football stadium, the Science Centre and IMAX, the Connexus Art Centre, etc I was really interested in going to see the RCMP Museum but as luck would have it, it was closed for its annual maintenance the week I was there... next time. The one thing about getting into Regina is that there are no direct flights. I flew London - Winnipeg - Calgary - Regina to get there and on the way home I came through Calgary again! It didn't make a lot of sense to me but there you go. The rest of the month has been filled with family and friends. Some highlights are posted below. Happy fall season everyone!
Allison's 5th Birthday
We celebrated Allison's 5th birthday on Wednesday, September 7th with cake, presents and chaos at Andrea and Jason's house. With the kids outnumbering the adults, it was a wild night complete with costumes (the little girls), crying babies (I think all of them were in tears at one time or another) and a homemade carrot cake complements of Grandma Marie. Allison was less interested in the gifts then she was in the cake and playing with the other kids but I think she liked all of them. It's always a party when you get the 4 Rinn generations together in one space and throw in some neightbours and their kids!
Paul Hominick Memorial Golf Tourney
The golf tournament was a success once again this year. With over 120 golfers and a beautiful sunny day out at Tamarack, we couldn't have asked for much more. Dad and I golfed with Aunt Lynda and Uncle Ron and made out pretty well in the end. This was Dad's first time out since the new knee has been put in place and I think he surprised everyone with how well he shot and drove the ball. Straighter, further... just wait til he gets the other one done! (No wait, then he might start shooting left....).
The dinner was amazing as usual and this year we had a silent and live auction instead of a huge prize table and live auction. The items all went and the big prize of the year in the live auction was 2 tickets to the next UFC fight in Toronto on December 10th featuring Mark the Machine. The scholarship fund was increased significantly and everyone had a great time!
