Caroling for Cans & Coins
Westminister United Church runs an annual "Caroling for Cans & Coins" event and this year Leslie Wright and I were in charge of the night. We had two big farm wagons with generators, stereos and decorated with Christmas lights ready to go with our two pick-up truck drivers and about 60 kids and adults who went door-to-door singing carols and collecting non-perishables. I didn't go out myself, but I stayed back at the home base and piled up the cans as they came in (Mark, our minister brought back boxes full throughout the night) and making cookies and hot chocolate with Ethel for the teams when they came back.
I still can't believe the generosity of the Thamesford community. By the time our two-hour trek was finished, we had 744 cans and over $260 collected!!! We far exceeded our expectations and what we have raised in prior years. The best part is that all of the food and money will go to local families. We are working with the Interchurch Committee this year which identifies famillies in the local area and makes Christmas hampers for them. It was a very rewarding and successful night!
