Family Time
This Easter weekend really was all about family time.
I took Thursday afternoon off to beat the traffic and drove home to Thamesford to spend the long weekend at home. Grandma is staying at Mom and Dad's while they are away so it wsa nice to come home to someone else and not an empty house. I made good time and managed to be home with the car unpacked by shortly after 6pm. As luck would have it, Andrea send me a text to if I was back and since I was, I was able to go with her to Allison's swimming lesson in Ingersoll. I love spending time with those little girls and Andrea and I got the chance to catch up while she had her lesson. Allison is smart as a little whip and as she gets older and her personality takes shape, she is more and more like her mother! Stubborn, determined, long-legged and gorgeous - she'll be a heart-breaker when she gets older.
Friday and Saturday were spent mostly at Susan and Alec's where the old roof tear-down and new roof construction was taking place. I did not venture onto the roof but I was there to watch Leah and do whatever else I could in the yard while the boys handled the roof and Susan supervised and did everything else that needed to be done. She worked hard to keep the crew going and well-fed and Leah happy and taken care of and everything running like a well-oiled machine. Unfortunately, after teardown day on Friday, Mother Nature decided to throw a thunderstorm into the mix overnight and Susan and Alec spent most of the night mopping up water that leaked through the tarp and ceiling... Not a fun night for them at all, but their spirits were still up and they kept at it all day Saturday despite the 2 hours of sleep. The crew worked to get the tresses up and the plywood fastened on under the supervision of the roofing expert Josh. There was still work to be done when I left Thamesford on Sunday morning but they got a lot accomlished in a couple days and the roof really does make it look like a different house!
Aunt Vi fell ill on the weekend so Grandma and I were into the hospital to see her on Friday and Aunt Vi's daughter Lynne came and stayed with us Saturday night to save the driving back and forth from Wallaceburg. Aunt Vi is 100 years old so any type of ailment is worrisome but she is recovering now and being well taken care of. It was great to have some time with Lynne too despite the circumstances that brought on her overnight visit.
In between the roofing and Aunt Vi, I managed to get some other visits in around Thamesford with Aunt Marie, Ashley, Andrea, Allison & Rachel, Polly Gilbert, Kathy & Mike, Hillary & Trenton and the Grangers. Now some of these took place with Leah and some at Susan's but it was great to see so many friends and family.
Leah is a little card these days. She is walking all over the place and getting into everything (the dog's water dish is a favorite to play in). Mike and Jess brought over her birthday present which was a new outdoor play thing with a sand box area on one side and a water area on the other. She loved it! I brought her some Easter Bunny ears and a bunny for Easter. She didn't mind the ears too much and at least let us get a couple pictures of her in them!
My drive back Sunday was very smooth with most people having Monday off, there weren't a lot of travelers on the road. I sailed through Toronto and made it back to Ottawa in under 6 hours. This is my last week here and this Friday I will make the final (for awhile) trip home :)
