Pumpkin Fest 2011
Woot-woot!
Two first prize ribbons for Kate!
The Westminister United Church held a Pumpkin Fest the weekend after Thanksgiving. The way it worked was the kids were given pumpkin seeds back in May to plant and grow their own pumpkins. They were to harvest the pumpkins and then enter them in the different competitions at the Pumpkin Fest including biggest, smallest, funiest shape, best colour, etc. In addition, they had pumpkin baking and pumpkin decorating competitions that you could do with purchased pumpkins.
There wasn't a great turnout unfortunately but the crowd that showed up was eager and excited. I entered into both the cake decorating and breads/muffins contests and took first prize for my apple-pumpkin bread (same one I served on Thanksgiving to my friends) and also for the pumpkin cake I decorated (see below for the picture).
I cut open the bread after the judging was complete and it was eaten right up :) I will have to practice some new recipes for next year to hold onto my position.... suggestions are welcome!
