Surprise!
Leah Lockhart's christening was planned for Mother's Day Sunday at Westministed United Church in Thamesford. Aunt Kate was not going to be able to make the trip home for this special occassion much to her disappointment. As luck would have it, I was attending a work conference in Toronto the week following Mother's Day. My awesome manager, who is a big family man himself, suggested that I go home for the weekend, take Monday to prepare for my presentations in Toronto and meet him there on Tuesday. He didn't have to tell me twice! With Grandma Rinn as my co-conspirator, I planned to drive home Saturday, stay at Tori's for the night in Woodstock and surprise my family at the church on Sunday morning.
All went according to plan (although it was tough not to keep driving past Wdsk on Saturday and surprise them early - good thing spending time with Tori is just like being family). I picked Grandma Rinn up for church and we arrived first and were able to greet the rest of our family as they came. Little Leah did pretty well with Mark the minister and gave the crowd a huge yawn as Mark held her up to welcome her into the church - thatta girl Leah! Aunt Mary's smocked dress looked adorable and Susan and Alec cleaned up pretty well too :) Although it was a long, boring trip home from Ottawa, I would not have done it differently for anything. My neice only gets christened once and these times with close friends and family are not moments to be forgotten.
Some highlights from the trip home:
1. I got to spend the evening catching up with Tori and Jackie
2. I ran into my friend Corrin Riach at the service centre outside Milton - very random, but great, especially after 6 hours alone in the car
3. Mom and Dad hosted a lunch after the christening so I got to see and visit with a bunch of family and friends
4. I proved to myself that I can drive the distance home in a day by myself - woot woot!
