To Good Friends and Neighbours
Thanksgiving weekend found me at home entertaining (finally!) in my new house. I had planned a lunch with friends on Saturday and then again with my neighbours and Grandma after church on Sunday. Saturday's crowd included Tori Gould, Jackie Beemer-Piper and Nicole and Melissa Blair. I had hoped to also have my friend Teri come but the Toronto traffic was so horrendous that she did not make it out of the city.
To keep with the festive Thanksgving season I made an early morning run to Trails End Farmers Market to pick up some butternut squash and fresh cheese. I had baked a pumpkin apple bread to go with the butternut squash and carrot soup. For dessert I baked some peanut butter chocolate chip squares. I had some lovely gourds to add to the decor and some pumpkin candies in a dish on the table.
The meal went over very well - so well in fact that I served a repeat the next day! I did bake some fresh pumpkin bread for round 2 since we had devoured the entire loaf the first day. For Sunday I actually made Marion Payne's pumpkin bread recipe - Marion (and her husband Ken) were the neighbours who was coming for lunch:). Everyone seemed to enjoy the soup the second day as well and Grandma and the Payne's stayed for a couple hours visiting and reminiscing. It was a great opportunity for me to thank them for watching my place during all my work travel and for some old friends to catch up too.
The rest of the weekend was spent with family and friends in Thamesford. I don't think I strayed too far from the village limits beyond the grocery store and Farmers' Market. It was great to have three days to get refreshed. I'm certainly thankful for everything that's happened to me in the past few months - new house, close to my amazing family and friends, a job I enjoy among - what more could I girl ask for?
