Adventures with O
So Jenn decided to take some well-earned vacation time for a long weekend trip to New Orleans from January 28 - February 1 (or so she thought as the impending storm has delayed her there until the 3rd...). I am a self-admittedly anti-pet but I offered to take care of Oliver for the extended weekend - he's pretty easy to care for: 3 walks per day, feed, water, a little cuddle or playtime if you're feeling generous and he's good to go. However, it's me and that means there are always challenges to the "normal"...
The Poop Factor
I know dogs poop. However, I did not realize just how much poop these little creatures can generate! I guess I was thinking a little poop pile once a day was normal but not so... I have picked up poop at least two times per day and I'm not talking about a little nugget, I'm talking a pile of squishy warm poop!
Poop Removal
Jenn is very green which is great when it comes to removing Oliver's poop from the offended sidewalk or yard. The poop pick-up bags are biodegradeable which means they can be discarded in any compost or garbage you find along your route. Sadly, I did forget the poop bag a couple times and while Oliver let me off the hook the first time, the second time I was not so lucky. I have a concience so I couldn't leave the poop but quickly spotted a discarded Doritos bag nearby and grabbed the poop with that. It wasn't pretty but it worked. Needless to say, when I get home from each walk now, I replace the poop bag with a new one so I don't have to worry about remembering on the way out the door.
Wild Goose Chases
My favorite toy of Oliver's is this stuffed Canada Goose that kind of makes a honking noise. Jenn's parents gave it to Oliver for Christmas so it's relatively new. I like the goose because it's easy to grab and play tug-of-war with Oliver and he'll chase it and bring it back to me. I think I just like to say "Get your goose" too - not sure why... So anyways, we have marathon goose-chasing sessions after our dinnertime walk until one of us gives up (it's 50/50 right now on who quits first).
Sleep Like A Dog
What's the saying - sleep like a log? I think there should be a saying "Sleep like a dog." I was off sick a couple of days this week and I had no idea how much dogs sleep in the day! He eats, walks, has a little play, and sleeps, sleeps, sleeps. Then the cycle repeats itself. It's appalling. The rule is that the dog does not go in my room (unless invited, which is rare). However, the little bugger had the audacity to take advantage of my weakened state and when I woke up in the middle of the afternoon on Wed, his drolling little head was up on the pillow next to me! The nerve...
So needless to say, I am happy to see Jenn return - a week with aa dog is about as much as I can handle right now. But, given the choice of dog, I would choose Oliver any day :)
