Like a Rock...
Understatement of the year!!! My Sunday skate on the Rideau Canal was definitely a challenge with the ice surface looking like someone had taken an axe to it... I got along alright until a budding Hayley Wickenheiser decided to crash into me. She had about 50 pounds on me so you can picture the collision between a Dodge Ram and a Toyota Corolla and that was the match up. I'm built tough, just not that big... I went down hard and she landed square with her butt on my head. The looks on the faces of people around us was priceless - mouths hanging open and concern/fear in their eyes. The girl who hit me didn't speak a lick of English and I didn't hear a French apology out of her mouth but regardless, I got back up and kept going after a stunned 30 seconds on the ground - no injuries to speak of. Good thing I've got a hard head!
I hugged the Mayor of Ottawa!
Well, technically Mama Ice Hog did, but last Friday I dressed as her for the wrap-up of Kindness Week in Ottawa. The mayor gave a speech to the crowd at the Rideau Centre and when he finished he came down and hugged Mama and Papa Ice Hogs (me and a random old man... kind of sketchy as he tried to hold my hand numerous times during the event...) Most people who have lived here their whole lives haven't even met Larry, but he and I are pretty tight these days...
The Key to your Co-workers' Hearts (haha Valentine's pun)
I introduced the Ottawa Emco team to my holiday cupcakes for Valentine's Day. They were pretty impressed... This is nothing - wait til they see my St Patty's Day creations!
PS: If anyone at London branch is reading this - sorry! I don't mean to rub it in your faces...
What a Gas!
The little Corolla and I went almost the entire month of February on one tank of gas!!!! Last time I filled up was February 2nd and since we had lots of snowfall this week and my tank was just under 1/4 full, I gave in and filled it up this morning - Feb.25 (I could hear Cheryl's voice in my head "Your tank should never be less than 1/2 full in the winter!"). BUT seriously - I have done tons of great things and have not hermitted myself away on weekends, and still have kept my gas usage to one tank for the whole month!!!! AND, gas is less expensive in Ottawa than it was in London. At this rate, I could put the high quality fuel in my little baby. If there was ever a time to be pumped up - this is it! (haha I am killing myself with the puns today)
As a side note - I can now get in and out of the parking garage in about 30 secs and I am a one-shot wonder at the backing in to my spot - it's all about confidence, and sometimes just closing your eyes and praying as you make the turns...
