Friday the 13th Pub Crawl
For Jenn D's birthday (she's next to me in the pic), Jenn B and I got her a ticket for the Naughty Ottawa Pub Crawl with us along with some "coupons" she could cash in for a shot and a drink at the bars along the way. So, we thought Friday the 13th would be the perfect night to do this. Now, we were under the impression that it was more like the Haunted Walk and that the stories would be about the ghost legends in Ottawa, but in fact, it was more based on scandals that had happened with the prime ministers of the past. It was still entertaining and interesting but not ghostly (in case anyone else makes that mistake).
The tour started downtown at Darcy McGee's and toured around the Parliament Buildings, through the Chateau Laurier and into the market. We stopped at the Earl of Sussex for a drink break and finished at the Lafayette Hotel which is another mainstay bar in the market. We heard stories about Laurier, McDonald, and the other politicians who have shaped our country. Most involved some kind of an affair which makes me question our Parliament somewhat, but the times were different back then... right?
The Lafayette Hotel is famous for the Bytowne shot which consists of a whole lot of bourbon and a splash (and that is being generous) of orange juice. Plus, you get to keep the shot glass! We were sold and each ordered one to toast Jenn's birthday. I even managed to hold it in as it scorched its way down my mouth, throat and stomach removing a layer as it went... I was still feeling the burn when I burped the next morning.
A very fun night with the Jenns and even though it wasn't a scary tour, we did some scary poses as we enjoyed our beverages at the Earl of Sussex. Happy Friday the 13th!
