Time with the Ladies!
Well the holiday season would not be complete without a get together with my university girls. We managed to get 7 of us together on January 2nd at my house for a potluck lunch and gift exchange. Melanie and Laura were home from Calgary and Vancouver respectively and Teri, Christine, Amanda, and Leslie all made it from the GTA. The weather was a little dicey but Teri and Amanda each brought a carload and they all made it safe and sound. I had set the big table up in my basement and decorated with my Christmas tree and other festive decor down there so we could all eat together (and not feel like we were in the basement...).
As always, it was awesome to get caught up with the girls and hear how everyone's Christmas and New Years had been. Our group is a mix of accountants, teachers, and Christine (lol - she's works for UPS in the tech/HR areas) so it's a mix I'm certainly used to and know a lot about.
We usually do one gift exchange - we play a game and everyone ends up with a gift when the time runs out. But this time we did 2 gift exchanges! The first one was for something you had been given for free through your job. The funniest thing had to be the morman bible that Mel received from one of her students earlier this year. I ended up with a laptop bag and pen courtesy of Laura :) Then the real gift exchange had a ton of great things - movie passes, books, makeup sets, a scarf, etc. From that one, I got a cake pop maker - so cool! It's a kit with all the ingredients (and instructions) to make little lollipop cakes. I think they will be perfect for Leah's 2nd birthday in March.
It was sad to see the girls leave and I can't wait until our next gathering - hopefully I'll get out west to see some of them before the summer and the ones in this area I'll get to see sooner of course. We missed Alexis and Kendra this year - Alexis had to return to Calgary for work and Kendra wasn't able to make it this year, but 7 of the 9 is a pretty good showing :)
