Two Weekends of Halloween Fun!
I was lucky enough to get to dress up twice this year for Halloween! I had a Halloween stag and doe in Thamesford on October 22nd and then a Halloween Party at Michelle and Mike Dench's place on the 29th. So of course I couldn't possibly wear the same costume twice (how taboo!). Luckily, I was able to come up with two great costumes (not that I'm bragging but I was pretty creative this year).
For the first event I wore a recycled costume from a few years ago that Mom made for me - a can of coke! It was made very economically from a Dollarama mesh laundry hamper covered with shiny red fabric and the Coca-Cola logo out of white felt. Like a giant Coke can basically. Mom had a huge part in the sewing (i.e. she did all of it) but I did trace and cut out the lettering. For a pop tab, I used a headband with a tinfoil "tab" on the top (no one really got it but I wore it all night anyways). The stag and doe was fun and I went with a group of high school friends so we had a good time getting caught up and reminiscing.
For Michelle and Mike's party I dressed as an IKEA bag as you can see from the picture. This costume was even MORE economical as it cost me $0.99 - the cost of an IKEA bag. I already had the blue tights (not sure why...) and the yellow t-shirt so I simply stepped into the bag, put the straps over my shoulders and was good to go! I cut out the extra handles and wrapped them around the headband to complete the look. There were some other good costumes that night too. Michelle and Mike dressed as Popeye and Olive Oyl and Rachel Fraser (who is 8-1/2 months pregnant) dressed as trailer trash and it was the most hilarious thing I have ever seen - she had the thong hanging out the back of her pants, belly showing, choker chain and teased hair... OMG it was too much. Her husband Mike looked like Joe Dirt with the mullet and sleeveless plaid shirt!
I got to hand out candy at my own house this year which was great! I had 60 kids (more than both Mom and Susan combined!). Andrea & Jason, Mark & Ashley, and Susan & Alec all brought over the little girls who were dressed as a bumblebee (Leah), Strawberry Shortcake (Raeya), Dorothy (Allison) and a bird (Rachel). They were adorable! I love Halloween.
