...Grandma Rinn Turns 94!
Grandma Rinn - a Thamesford legend in her own right - turned 94 on July 15! To celebrate this notable occasion, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren joined her for breakfast at her favorite restuarant - Keyo's - in downtown Thamesford. True to her form and despite being the birthday girl, Grandma still managed to pick up the tab (she whispered something to the waitress on the way in... I wasn't paying enough attention to head that off). We all had a really nice breakfast together and Grandma's favorite waitress snapped our photo as we finished up. On the way out, Kim - the owner of Keyo's - gave Grandma a big hug and a piece of cake to take home for later :)
Happy Birthday Grandma! We love you!

... Beware of Geese Crossing!
I was running by the canal on Sunday morning and noticed all the cars had stopped on the road ahead. As I got closer, I realized that there was a line of geese crossing and all the cars were waiting for the geese flock to get across. Luckily, I was running with my iPhone and was able to snap a picture!
Only in the nation's capital do geese take precedence over aggressive drivers... I feel that in Toronto, those geese would have been roadkill.

...The Reesors Visit Ottawa
Mark, Tonya and the boys - Cal, Nolan, and Emmett (hiding his face) from left to right in the picture - decided to come to Ottawa for the weekend on their way out to the east coast last week. I had not seen them since Christmas so I was pretty excited to spend some time with the kids and get caught up with M&T too.
For those of you who don't know, Mark and Tonya live in Waterloo and during university, I spent a lot of time with their family and have definitely missed that since I finished school and more so, now that I'm in Ottawa. Mark and Tonya lived in Ottawa before they had kids so they have a number of friends here and were staying in Kanata with Jim, Kim and their two kids - Malcolm and Asha.
We met on Saturday afternoon and spent some time in Wakefield swimming then went to Gatineau Park to the beach. It was really hot and humid but not all that sunny so a good day to be in the water. I had a great time hanging out with them and discovering one of the great beaches in the Ottawa area!
Thanks for a great visit Reesor family!

... Shakespeare Comes to the Park
Being of the tourist mindset (yes, I still am), I found an ad for a group called the Company of Fools that puts on Shakespeare plays in the local parks every night for the month of July in Ottawa. (I later found out that they actually do this in a number of cities across Canada as my friend Allie went to one in Edmonton last week too!) Jenn and I met Cully down at Strathcona Park on Monday night for A Midsummer Night's Dream. Cully (she's a thinker) brought the blanket, paper cups and a thermos of sangria and we sat down in the grass to watch.
There were definitely a few deviations from William Shakespeare's version, but overall the main storyline was the same and the modern twists they added were comical and fitting to the atmosphere. At the end of the performance, which lasted about 90 minutes, the cast accepted donations and comment cards from the relatively large audience. For $5-10 it was a pretty great way to spend the evening!
