Working out the Junebugs
Rolling... Rolling... Rolling on the River
With the start of summer, work gets off an hour earlier on Fridays than usual which for me, means I am technically off at 3pm (my technical end time is 4 - I just tend to be there later most nights). BUT, I've decided that on Fridays I am going to take full advantage of this perk and leave at 3pm. This past Friday was no exception and I jetted out and home before traffic got crazy on the 417 and was home at 3:05 - whoohoo!
Since the sun was shining and it was calling for rain all weekend, I strapped on my roller blades and headed off to the Rideau Canal pathway for a little ride. I was planning to blade down to Dow's Lake and then back down the other sides of the canal to where I started. It all sounded good in theory and I headed off, down the path for about 25 minutes to the Lake, around the Lake and continued on along the water. At one point (and this should have tipped me off), the path stopped and you were forced to cross this little man bridge to the other side. I did this and then continued on along the water.
Nothing was looking all that familiar but I was still following the water so I figured that I must be on the right track and I just kept going... Until... I see a sign for Hog's Back Park. For those of you who don't know Ottawa, Hog's Back Park is about 12 km from my condo (I went to MapMyRun.com and checked). Needless to say, when I saw the Hog's Back Park sign, tears formed in my eyes...
Still feeling a little lost (and having lost all faith in my sense of direction), I asked a lady standing nearby how to get back and she said the best way was back the direction I came. My knees wobbled a little then too as I tried not to throw up or cry, but I stayed up and after 1h 45mins of roller blading, I arrived back to Somerset Street. Lesson learned.
Luckily, the roller blading didn't tire me out too much and I still managed to get a good night of dancing in with the girls!
