Lights On Canada!
December 2nd was a big night on the Hill as the Christmas lights were lit in Ottawa and throughout the country.
Stephen Harper and family were on hand along with a number of other political figures and Ottawa residents to take in the ceremony. Each premier's face was flashed across the front of the buildings as they shared messages with the spectators and a children's choir sang a few Christmas tunes. The crowd joined in for O Canada and Stephan Harper spoke (a speech that I'm sure he did not write himself). Rogers and CBC news were on hand broadcasting live. There were candles you could buy to wave around in the air and the Beaver Tails wagon was selling like crazy!
Oliver and I just took it all in from near the back of the crowd. Oliver attracted a lot of atention as usual so we were kept entertained by kids and adults stopping to say hello to the "cute little dog" or "petit chien" as many were French.
Finally at around 6:45, the fireworks began and the buildings and trees around the city were lit with Christmas spirit! It was neat to see but I was a little underwhelmed by the whole event. I don't know what I was expecting but it was pretty low-key. The city really does feel like Christmas now though and I'm definitely in the spirit!
My pictures are not too clear but between the crowd and the dog it was hard to take good snaps....
