Happy Canada Day!
July 1, 2011 will be a day to remember for many people - the Royals were in town, Canada Day fireworks went off and friends and families celebrated with barbeques and beer. Others will remember it as the day they waited at the border for over 5 hours to get across to the USA. I am one of those unfortunate individuals who spent over 8 hours in the car last Friday trying to get from Waterloo to Buffalo. The last 5 kilometres leading up the border crossing took 5 painful hours. And I really do mean painful as my bladder is the size of a peanut and there was absolutely no place to go except the side of the road or my personal choice, the Starbucks coffee cup from earlier that morning. (Yes, I used that badboy twice to relieve my bladder as we inched our way along the road). I felt worse for the cars carrying children or elderly people - it was a hot day and you can only sit for so long without going a little crazy.
Sadly, due to this loooong wait, Tonya and I missed our flight to Boston and we were unable to get a later flight as they were all completely booked up. I was pretty disappointed; however, we made the best of the bad situation by booking ourselves a night at the Sheraton in Niagara Falls and indulging in wine and pasta at Milestones overlooking the Falls. We had a great view of the fireworks from our window-side table and a cute waiter to boot :)
We spent Saturday in Niagara-on-the-Lake and visiting some wineries in the area. Niagara-on-the-Lake really is a beatiful little place and it was teeming with tourists and festival goers. We wandered through the shops and each bought a few things then had some more wine and lunch at a nice little cafe in the middle of town.
All in all, the weekend was pretty good...not what I was hoping or expecting, but we made the best of it. I tortured myself by putting on TV the Boston Pops July 4th concert on Monday night (which we would have been at) and found out that Martina McBride was performing live there too! So sad...
I hope everyone had a terrific Canada Day weekend and has enjoyed the beautiful weather this week!
