Weekend with Mom & Dad
March ended with a great visit from Mom and Dad on the last weekend of the month. My awesome friend Kaylyn hooked them up at the Chateau once again and they arrived on Friday night for a long weekend with me. To celebrate my birthday, we went to my favourite restaurant for dinner on Friday night in the Market. Saturday we had lunch at Tucker's Market which is a huge buffet-style restaurant in Byward Market as well that has everything from breakfast foods to salads to pastas to main courses and everything in between, plus a big dessert bar. No one could be unhappy eating at Tucker's. Mom and I then went to the Art Gallery to view some of the Canadian art exhibits. We left Dad at the huge Chapters right by the hotel so he was quite happy. Then Mom and I did some shopping at Zone and we met back up with Dad at the Chateau where we ended the afternoon around the table playing cards in their hotel room. We went to Mamma Grazzi's for dinner which is a quaint little Italian restaurant that is said to be the best Italian place in Ottawa and it was very good. They do nice pasta dishes and thin crust pizzas. A perfect day!
Saturday was also the celebration of Earth Hour and as I was walking home that evening after dinner I was able to see how the city responded to the energy saving initiative. The Chateau turned all the lights in their lobby off and lit candles around which was beautiful with the decor there. On Parliament Hill, a large crowd was gathered with candles and they had a little celebration going on there. Most other businesses and streets were dimly lit as restaurants and shops lowered or removed their lighting as well.
And sadly, that is when disaster struck... On my walk back from the hotel as I'm looking around at all the dimly lit buildings and environmentally responsible businesses, I managed to fall flat on my face as I was crossing the road. And I mean a full-out face plant. I banged my knee off the curb and my bag flew out of my hands and the few onlookers stared open-mouthed as I picked myself off the ground, rubbed my knees quickly and limped off. Yup, some things never change... I've attached a picture below of the result of the fall - my poor knee definitely took a beating.
On Sunday I got Mom and Dad a voucher for High Tea at the Chateau which they enjoyed very much! They then spent the afternoon and evening at my place playing cards and I made them dinner there. They headed home on Monday much to my regret but it was a great weekend with them.
